Shrine cabinet

Ref: L-choshom

A fabulous 18thC red lacquer and gilt shrine cabinet (Tib. Choshom )
The shrine consists of 9 niches arranged on two levels. Most of the pillars ,and all bar one of the capital are intricately decorated with a raised jesso technique .The pillars with out decoration may be replacments, but they appear old ,worn and effected by carbonisation.
The wooden frame is made up of a pair of side posts and an architectural overmantle, all of which leave me with the impression of miniture temple.
The overmantle is identical to the staggered brickwork found on Tibetan buildings and are decorated with floral designs, while those above are finished with a single flaming jewel.
At the back there are two slots that indicate the the Choshom previously sat on top of a another piece of furniture.
76 x 77 x 12 cm
