Large red lacquered cabinets with metal lock plates have for years been sold by the trade as "wedding cabinets" .
Some no doubt were wedding gifts , for others the phrase was just an angle for the retaile in a sales pitch

This cabinet however really is a wedding cabinet in the true sence. The symbol on each door is " double happiness" , made from happiness and happiness, therfore "double happiness". And double happiness is the Chinese symbol for marrage or wedding.
The area of wear on the removable spine and doors is from a small brass disc that was places over a hasp to lock the doors.
