Afyon ( Opium ) in Central Anatolia used to go by the name Afyonkarahisar "the Dark Opium Castle"; pharmaceutical cultivation still takes place there . It is also famous for the clotted cream produced by the cattle that live on the harvested poppy plants.People say that most things about Afyon are a little odd , and this may explian this unusual mid to late 20thC weaving. Woven in medium to fine wool on cotton warps the Kilim has a boarder on just one edge. The field is decorated in an overall elibelinde designBrown Grey and burnt Ginger .293 x 148 cm
