Ref: W1208
A rare Elm wine table with a narrow top and splayed legs. I have always found the trapeziod element of early Chinese furniture facinating, and have taken it to be a good sign when buying in China .This is a great example, where the legs are splayed in both directions. The wood is YuMu ,Northern Elm and was originally lacquered , some of which can still be seen in the richly patinated top surface. The table is strengthened with the use of a humpbacked stretcher on all sides, and is embellished with a pair of interlocking circles( both of which appear to be replacements). I have recently had this table cleaned and wax.The finished article very pleasing and would make a great addition to anyones collection.17th /18th C Shanxi province .
