The Collection >> Chinese Furniture >> A lacquered dresser base
Ref: Q-hai DB
A late 19thC lacquered Altar table from Gansu province in Northern China. Made of Elm , and arranged with 3 drawers set into base with elaborate carved and curved apron ,legs ,and spandrells. It is easy to dismiss late Qing furniture as being over guady and elaborate a Victorian sense , but this Altar has much to recommend it . The soft worn colour and condition of the lacquer and the curvilinear shape that demands attension without, being over fussy. 170 x 52 x 85 cm
