Architecture

This section of our site is split between architectural salvage and our own production of carved wooden planking and paneling.

Our range of carved hard wood planks and panels are commissioned in the Thai Burmese boarder to the east of Mandalay. The hand finishing of this unique product is done in our workshops in Bangkok .Wood carving is as synonymous with Burma as coals are to Newcastle.

Temple construction in the 19thC was almost always in Teak, except in the most prestigious sites. The carved frontages and balconies were an inspiration to the Colonials, who used the skills of the carpenters to create elaborate ceiling panels to imitate Georgian and Victorian plaster work, in their wooden colonial villas.

Today we have incorporated those skills into producing a range of carved designs in manageable sizes so that they have become architectural add ons that can be used to create the feeling of age and ambience with the aid of a few screws and a pot of paint or polish. Ideal suited for either wall or ceiling mounting, the product can be painted, stained or left in its raw state. Used extensively in restaurants and nightclubs, it can be dramatically back lit.

The rest of this section is given over to our collection of Egyptian town house doors, Tribal doors from Nuristan, carved pillars and capitals.
In addition there is a vast array of carved architectural features that have been salvaged from religious and secular buildings.

Most recently we have been involved with the revamping of the Hotel Farinet in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier, and a night club in Zurich. Closer to home , our range of wooden paneling continues to be use by Mitchell and Butlers in their roll out of the Orange Tree.
